Free and Reduced Meals

Students will bring home a free or reduced priced meal application the first day of school. Follow the directions on the application; be sure the application is complete with all information requested. Return application to the campus school secretary or mail it to Attn. Carole Cottrell Food Director Kerens ISD. The processing of an application can take up to ten (10) days at the beginning of the school year, five (5) days during the year. Once the application has been processed we will send a notification letter in the mail or contact you by phone with the household's eligibility. Until you receive notification you qualify for the meal program you will need to send breakfast/lunch money or a sack lunch with your child.

Starting the 2011-2012 school year, the cafeteria will have a policy change regarding students' charges.  This change is for students who pay full-price for a full meal not ala carte.  Each student account will have a limit up to $10.00 for allowed charges.  Until a payment is made on the student's account, the student will receive a sack lunch (a sack lunch meets Nutritional Guidelines), with a normal lunch charge.  No Ala Carte will be permitted for charges.

Applications are available from each school office, cafeteria and the administration building. A new application must be completed each school year. Students with approved applications on file from the previous school year, and any additional siblings, will receive the same free or reduced-price meal benefits for the first 30 days of school. After that, any family who has not submitted a new application will have meal benefits terminated. To apply for free or reduced-price meals, an adult household member should complete the application and return it to the child's school. One application may be used to list all children in the household, except for foster children, who require separate applications. Applications are available in English and Spanish and may be submitted at any time during the school year. School officials may verify application information at any time during the school year.
